Description:

Recent studies have indicated that media professionals work longer hours on average than any other industry sector. That doesn’t necessarily make it more stressful but it’s not a good indicator!

Some stress in our lives is actually good but too much is just plain unhealthy and there are plenty of stressors: workload, demanding clients, colleagues and managers.

This workshop aims to introduce what stress actually consists of: physically (brain and bodily reactions), mentally (beliefs and attitudes), emotionally (feelings) and how this affects one’s behaviour. The emphasis is placed on how stress affects behaviour when working in the media sector.

Usually many of the causes of stress cannot be eliminated. It would be impractical to expect work to slow down or clients to stop making demands, so the session offers practical techniques for coping with stress-related symptoms. That is how the individual can adapt to the environment.

We do this by helping the participants identify their main stressors and learn about practical strategies which can be used at all times; at and away from the work environment.

Here is an overview of what we are likely to be able to cover:

• Looking at how stress can be managed by choosing how we will respond.

• Understanding our physiological and emotional responses to stress; how to recognise and manage them in yourself

• Understanding how our perception affects our response to stress.

• Looking at what factors contribute to stress in the workplace.

• Discussing stress management strategies, which are applicable within the work environment.

Please register your interest to attend by Thursday 5th of August.  We will confirm after registrations have closed on whether you have secured a place.

Members are advised to have received confirmation with direct managers to attend any NGen workshops prior to registrations of interest.
